Armed robbery at a shop in Wallsend

According to an article published on 25 June 2025 by Chroniclelive, a shop worker was threatened with a knife at a store on Wallsend High Street. The incident occurred on 13 March 2025, when a staff member confronted a man, identified as Adam Watson, after observing him stealing washing pods.

Chroniclelive reports that when challenged, Watson became aggressive and brandished a silver knife with a three to four-inch blade. The worker stated she believed she was going to be stabbed during the confrontation. Watson fled the scene with stolen goods valued between £50 and £70. Other staff members present during the incident, including a pregnant colleague, reported being left in a state of shock and fear.

Watson, 26, has since pleaded guilty to robbery, possession of a bladed article, and a series of other offences, including multiple shop thefts in North Tyneside, and is now serving a prison sentence.

Business owners are encouraged to implement clear safety protocols for staff when dealing with suspected shoplifters to minimize the risk of physical confrontation.
