Arrest after Worksop shop staff threatened with knife
Nottinghamshire Police have arrested a man following a serious incident in Worksop where retail staff members were threatened with a knife after confronting a suspected shoplifter.
The confrontation occurred during the afternoon of October 8, 2025, at a retail premises in the town. According to witness statements, the suspect attempted to leave the store without paying for items when he was challenged by staff. The individual then brandished a knife, using it to intimidate the workers before fleeing the scene on foot. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported, though the staff involved were left deeply shaken by the encounter.
Rapid Police Response
Officers responded quickly to the emergency call, deploying local patrols and dog units to search the surrounding area. A suspect matching the description provided by witnesses was located nearby shortly afterward and arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
Inspector Jon Hewitt of Nottinghamshire Police praised the quick-thinking actions of the store staff and the rapid intervention of officers. "Knife crime remains a top priority, and we will take decisive action against anyone who threatens key workers or members of the public with violence," he added. The suspect remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
