Assault and Armed Robbery Suspect Jorge Reyes-Suarez Arrested After Costco Parking Lot Attack

SALEM, Ore. — A 45-year-old man faces severe felony charges after allegedly assaulting a woman with a replica firearm and robbing her in a Salem parking lot on Friday afternoon, February 6, 2026. The suspect was apprehended following a high-speed police chase and a coordinated search by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Violence at local business

The Salem Police Department responded to reports of a robbery and assault at approximately 12:06 p.m. in the 4800 block of 27th Avenue SE. According to authorities, a female victim was loading items into her vehicle when she was confronted by a male suspect. The suspect struck the woman in the head with a handgun, grabbed her fanny pack, and fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla. The victim sustained head and facial lacerations and was transported to Salem Hospital.

Pursuit and Arrest

Oregon State Police and local officers spotted the suspect's vehicle shortly after the incident, initiating a pursuit. The suspect eventually abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. Officers established a perimeter, and a Salem Police K9 team successfully tracked the suspect and located a discarded replica handgun (pellet gun) nearby.

The suspect, identified as Jorge Reyes-Suarez, was taken into custody and booked into the Marion County Jail. He has been charged with First-Degree Robbery and First-Degree Assault, with additional charges of Felony Attempt to Elude filed by the Oregon State Police.
