ATM Burglaries Target Wicker Park and River North Commercial Areas
CHICAGO โ Commercial districts in Wicker Park and River North were targeted by thieves in a series of burglaries focusing on automated teller machines (ATMs), prompting an active investigation by the Chicago Police Department.
The incidents occurred during the early morning hours, when suspect vehicles and crews targeted retail and service establishments in these high-traffic neighborhoods. In Wicker Park, burglars shattered a storefront window to access and remove an ATM, causing significant property damage in the process. A short time later, a similar break-in was reported at a business in River North, where offenders breached the entrance to target the establishment's cash machine.
Chicago Police Department's Area 3 detectives are leading the investigation, examining security camera footage from the businesses and surrounding street corners. Police are investigating whether these incidents are part of a wider, organized pattern targeting commercial areas across the city. Business owners in Wicker Park and River North are being urged to lock down their establishments, utilize protective barriers, and ensure their security alarms and cameras are fully operational. Anyone with information regarding these break-ins is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
