ATM theft investigation in Plympton
According to an article published on 10 February 2026, Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating a burglary at a Co-op store in Plympton. Agriland reports that at approximately 1:45am on Monday, February 2, a stolen John Deere telehandler was used to ram the shop's wall, allowing for the theft of two cashpoint machines.
Police believe at least four individuals were involved in the operation. Investigations indicate that the telehandler, along with a truck and trailer used to transport the stolen machines, were taken from the Smithaleigh area. The suspects reportedly arrived in three vehicles, all believed to be stolen. Following the incident, the vehiclesโexcluding the telehandlerโwere discovered burnt out in a forest near Sparkwell.
Detective Constable Andrew Trott-Rodgers stated that the suspects likely conducted reconnaissance in the area prior to the raid. Authorities are currently seeking witnesses, doorbell camera footage, and information regarding any local bed and breakfast bookings made by four men during the weekend of January 31 and February 1. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police quoting reference 50260027042.
Businesses should ensure that heavy machinery and vehicles are securely stored and immobilized outside of operating hours to prevent their use in criminal activities.
