ATM raided and shops trashed in Burntisland and Lochgelly
Police investigate linked commercial burglaries in Fife
According to an article published by the Dailyrecord on 18 March 2026, police are investigating a series of linked break-ins involving shops in Burntisland and Lochgelly. The incidents occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, March 18.
Officers were first alerted to a break-in at the Totally Hardware store on Burntisland High Street at 1:30 am, where a group of men attempted to remove an ATM and stole an unspecified number of items. Approximately 30 minutes later, a second break-in and theft were reported at the Premier Store on Auchterderran Road in Lochgelly.
The Dailyrecord reports that the suspects were seen fleeing both scenes in a dark-coloured Audi with a registration number starting with SV57. The vehicle was reportedly driven dangerously along the A92 between Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence from both locations. Detective Sergeant Duncan Thompson has appealed for anyone with information or dash-cam footage to contact Police Scotland, quoting incident number 0174 of 18 March 2026.
