Ram-raid incident at Whetstone supermarket

According to Leicestermercury, an ATM was stolen from a Co-Op supermarket in Whetstone during a ram-raid incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 9 July 2025. Police were called to the scene on Cambridge Road at 4:07 a.m. after a vehicle was driven into the front of the building.

Reports indicate that the ATM was loaded into a blue Toyota Hilux, which then fled the scene alongside a blue BMW. While travelling along Cambridge Road, the Toyota Hilux collided with a stationary, unmarked police vehicle that was attending an unrelated traffic stop. The officer inside the police car was not injured.

Leicestershire Police have launched an investigation into the burglary and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the two vehicles or noticed suspicious activity in the area. Business owners are encouraged to review their security measures, including the installation of reinforced bollards and high-definition surveillance systems, to deter unauthorized vehicle access.
