ATMs Stolen from Two Separate Sylmar Businesses in Overnight Burglaries

SYLMAR, California — A crew of smash-and-grab burglars targeted two retail businesses in Sylmar, stealing ATMs from the premises in overnight attacks. The thefts, which occurred around September 28, 2024, were recorded on store security cameras.

Violent Extraction Caught on Camera

Surveillance videos show the thieves utilizing a vehicle to crash through the front doors of the stores. The suspects then quickly wrapped heavy chains or straps around the ATMs and used the vehicle's momentum to rip the machines from their mountings. The entire process took less than three minutes at each location, leaving behind substantial structural damage.

Investigation Underway

Police are investigating whether the same group is responsible for both incidents, given the identical methods and timing. Store owners are faced with the costly task of repairing their storefronts and reassessing their security measures, including the placement of automated teller machines within their facilities.
