Attempted ATM Theft Causes Major Damage to Middle Road Forecourt in Carrickfergus

CARRICKFERGUS, County Antrim — Detectives are appealing for information following an attempted theft of an ATM at a forecourt in the Middle Road area of Carrickfergus in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Forecourt Targeted in Late-Night Break-in

The incident was reported to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) at approximately 12:10 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered that substantial damage had been caused to the ATM machine during the break-in attempt. Despite the significant damage to the structure, the perpetrators were unable to access the cash chamber, and no money was stolen.

Following the crime scene assessment, the targeted business was cleared to continue trading and has resumed its normal operations. Forensic investigators remained at the scene throughout the morning, resulting in temporary access restrictions to the nearby car park at Carrickfergus Cricket Club.

Detectives Appeal for Footage

Detective Inspector Lenaghan is leading the investigation and has urged any witnesses who were in the Middle Road area between midnight and 12:30 a.m. to get in touch. Police are particularly keen to review any dash-cam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage captured in the vicinity.
