Attempted burglary at a private home in Burnley

According to an article published on 11 December 2024 by the Lancashiretelegraph, a man attempted to break into a house on Cog Lane in Burnley during the early hours of November 5. At the time of the incident, a mother and her one-year-old child were sleeping inside the property.

The Lancashiretelegraph reports that Luke Gorton, 40, and another individual approached the home. Doorbell camera footage captured Gorton carrying a torch and an unidentified object. The pair attempted to open the door, but left the scene after finding it locked. The homeowner, who was working a night shift during the incident, later reviewed the footage and reported feeling significant anxiety regarding the security of his family.

Gorton was arrested days later following a pursuit involving a police dog. He subsequently pleaded guilty to one count of attempted burglary at Burnley Crown Court. Judge Daniel Prowse sentenced Gorton to 18 months in prison, noting that the incident caused real distress to the victims. The defendant has a history of 20 previous convictions for 50 offences.

Always ensure that all entry points to your home are securely locked, even when you are inside.
