Walesonline reports that 44-year-old Gareth Heard entered the business brandishing a gas-powered BB gun, which was described by the court as a realistic imitation of a firearm. Heard demanded cash and jewellery from the staff, but his requests were refused. Following the confrontation, Heard reportedly broke down in tears, apologised to the employees, and placed the weapon on the counter while waiting for the police to arrive.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that the staff managed the situation by de-escalating the encounter. However, the incident had a significant impact on the employees, with one staff member reporting ongoing trauma and anxiety. Heard, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
