Attempted Robbery Turns Fatal on Houston's Northside, Leaving One Dead
HOUSTON, Texas โ An early morning stop for gasoline turned tragic when 30-year-old Andrew Garza was fatally shot during an attempted robbery. The incident occurred on February 28, 2024, at a Sunny's Food Store in the 10200 block of Bauman Road on Houston's Northside.
According to police reports, Garza and his uncle were stopping for gas on their way to work when they were approached by three armed suspects. In an act of self-defense, the uncle drew his own firearm, resulting in an immediate exchange of gunfire between him and the robbery suspects. Tragically, Garza was struck in the head during the crossfire and died at the scene.
Following a rapid investigation by the Houston Police Department, three suspects were apprehended and charged with capital murder: 19-year-old Christian Barrera, 22-year-old Travante Purvis, and 24-year-old Fernando Aguilar Jr.
