Attempted Santa Rosa bank robbery suspect left teller note, bag behind: PD
SANTA ROSA, CA โ A suspect is in custody following an unsuccessful bank robbery attempt at a Santa Rosa branch, during which the individual left behind key evidence, including a threatening note and a bag.
The incident occurred on Friday, May 22, 2026, at approximately 3:02 p.m. at the Bank of America located at 1155 West Steele Lane. According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, a male suspect entered the bank, approached a teller, and handed over a bag along with a note demanding money and issuing threats. However, before the teller could comply or hand over any cash, the suspect abruptly fled the scene on foot, leaving both the bag and the note behind.
Witnesses immediately provided officers with a description of the suspect, and police deployed a FLOCK license plate reader and surveillance cameras in the area. A camera captured footage of the suspect walking eastbound on West Steele Lane shortly after the attempted heist.
Officers searching the area located the suspect, identified as 38-year-old transient Angosom Gebre, in the vicinity of Administration and Paulin Drive. Gebre was arrested without incident and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on charges of attempted robbery and violation of parole.
