Attempted theft at a petrol station in Newry

According to an article published by Belfastlive on 14 August 2025, police are investigating an attempted theft at a petrol station located on the Forkhill Road in Cloghoge, Newry. The incident occurred at approximately 3:35 am on Thursday, 14 August.

Belfastlive reports that three men entered the petrol station forecourt and used an angle grinder on a fuel pump, resulting in damage to the equipment. One suspect was described as being in his 30s and wearing welding goggles, black Adidas bottoms, and a black top. The second man wore shorts, a navy hoodie with white writing, and a face mask, while the third individual wore jeans, a hooded light jacket, and a face mask. The suspects fled the scene in a white hatchback vehicle with no registration plates, heading towards the A1 road.

The PSNI is appealing for information regarding this incident and has requested that witnesses contact them quoting reference 150 of 14/08/25. Enquiries into the matter remain ongoing.

Business owners are encouraged to ensure that all exterior forecourt equipment is monitored by high-quality CCTV systems to deter and document criminal activity.
