Attempted Thieves Ram U-Haul Truck Into Metro PCS Store on Seven Mile Road in Detroit

DETROIT — Detroit police are investigating a smash-and-grab attempt at a Metro PCS cell phone store on Seven Mile Road, where suspects crashed a rented U-Haul truck into the business.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of September 24, 2025. According to investigators, the suspects backed the large truck into the storefront, shattering the glass doors and destroying the metal security gates in a bid to gain entry to the building and steal merchandise.

Despite the severe damage to the storefront, the thieves were apparently unable to secure any cell phones or cash before fleeing. Police believe the store's internal security systems or the structural resilience of the inner inventory safes prevented the suspects from completing the heist. The culprits left the scene shortly after the crash, leaving behind extensive property damage.
