Auburn, Michigan Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Arson of Robbed Gas Station

AUBURN, Michigan — A federal judge has sentenced an Auburn man to a significant prison term after he confessed to robbing a local gas station of alcohol and cigarettes and then setting fire to the business to conceal his crimes, federal prosecutors announced.

The incident occurred late at night when the defendant entered the gas station convenience store, threatened the employee, and stole a cache of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. Before fleeing the scene, the man intentionally set fire to the building, causing extensive structural damage and endangering lives.

Following a joint investigation by local police, fire marshals, and federal investigators, the suspect was arrested. He pleaded guilty to federal charges of robbery and arson of a building used in interstate commerce. During the sentencing hearing, the judge noted the severe threat to public safety and the economic devastation caused to the local business owners.

In addition to his prison sentence, the defendant has been ordered to serve a period of supervised release and pay full restitution for the extensive property damage caused by the fire.
