Auburn, New York Woman Facing Burglary Charges After Walmart Incident
AUBURN, New York โ An Auburn woman is facing felony burglary charges following an incident at the local Walmart Supercenter, police announced on Thursday.
According to the Auburn Police Department, store security personnel observed a female suspect entering the retail store on State Street and attempting to leave with unpaid merchandise. Upon further investigation by responding officers, it was determined that the woman had previously been formally banned from the Walmart premises due to prior shoplifting incidents.
Because the suspect knowingly entered the store unlawfully with the intent to commit a crime inside (larceny), the offense was upgraded to third-degree burglary, which is a felony in New York State. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cayuga County Jail for processing.
Local law enforcement officials emphasized that trespassing in retail establishments after being formally banned routinely elevates standard petit larceny charges to felony-level burglary offenses. The suspect is currently awaiting arraignment in Auburn City Court.
