Bank robbery suspect shot by police after daylight heist in Covington business district

COVINGTON, Kentucky — A bank robbery in the heart of Covington's business district erupted into violence on Friday, culminating in an officer-involved shooting that left the suspect injured and a major thoroughfare shut down for several hours.

The incident began in the afternoon when Covington Police responded to reports of an active bank robbery at a financial institution in the commercial corridor. Officers arriving at the scene encountered an armed suspect exiting the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. According to police reports, the suspect refused verbal commands to surrender and brandished a firearm, prompting officers to open fire.

The suspect was struck during the gunfire and immediately received first aid from responding officers before being transported by emergency medical services to a nearby hospital. His current condition has been described as stable. Fortunately, no officers or bank employees were injured during the robbery or the subsequent confrontation.

The Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney and the Kentucky State Police have launched an independent investigation into the shooting, which is standard procedure for officer-involved incidents.
