Belfast Courts Sentence Knife-Point Off-Licence Robbers as Police Probe Separate Armed Holyland Raid

BELFAST โ€” Security concerns in the retail sector have been thrust into the spotlight following a series of serious robberies in the city. In the Belfast Crown Court, two men have been jailed for a terrifying knife-point robbery at an off-licence in East Belfast. Meanwhile, police are investigating a separate armed incident in the Holyland area where a suspect made off with cash and alcohol.

East Belfast Off-Licence Robbery Sentencing

Emmanuel Quinn and Martin Smyth were handed prison sentences after pleading guilty to their roles in the knifepoint raid. The court heard details of the ordeal, during which a shop worker was subjected to extreme intimidation. One of the robbers brandished a knife and warned a staff member: โ€œIf you donโ€™t find the cash I will stab you.โ€ The traumatic encounter left staff severely shaken, and the judge emphasized the gravity of using weapons to threaten retail workers who are serving the public.

Holyland Armed Robbery

In a separate and more recent incident, police are appealing for information following an armed robbery in the Holyland district of South Belfast. According to reports, an armed man entered a commercial premises, threatened staff, and demanded money. The assailant fled the scene with a sum of cash and a quantity of beer. Local community representatives have expressed concern over the repeated targeting of local businesses, urging the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) to increase patrols in the area.

Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding either incident, or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in East Belfast or the Holyland, to contact investigators immediately.
