Bishop Auckland Jeweller and Pawnbroker Forced to Close After Window Smashed
BISHOP AUCKLAND โ A well-known local jeweller and pawnbroker in Bishop Auckland has been forced to close temporarily following a security incident in which one of its main display windows was smashed.
The shop, located in the town centre, was closed to the public as police officers and staff assessed the damage. Glass fragments were scattered across the pavement and inside the display area, prompting the immediate closure of the premises to ensure safety and secure the high-value stock inside.
Durham Constabulary arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported to establish the circumstances of the vandalism. Officers are currently investigating whether the damage was the result of an attempted smash-and-grab robbery or an act of criminal damage. A cordon was put in place around the shopfront while forensic examinations were carried out.
Local business owners expressed concern over the incident, noting the impact of such disruptions on high street trade. "It's devastating to see local businesses targeted in this way," said one nearby shopkeeper. "We hope the shop is able to secure their premises and reopen soon."
Police are appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the surrounding area around the time of the incident, to come forward immediately to assist with their enquiries.
