Bodycam Footage Released of Intense Houston Gunfight During Home Invasion Response

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Police Department has released body-worn camera footage detailing a chaotic shootout that occurred on September 17, 2024, in the 7100 block of Alderney Drive. The incident unfolded as officers responded to an active home invasion in progress, where suspects had zip-tied a mother and her two children inside their residence.

Upon entering the home, officers immediately confronted the suspects. While attempting to take 38-year-old Michael Perez into custody, a second suspect, identified as 35-year-old Raymond Perez, suddenly emerged from a back room and opened fire on the responding officers.

During the sudden exchange of gunfire, Officer S. Durfee was struck in the leg. Despite sustaining injuries, Officer Durfee managed to return fire. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

The shooter, Raymond Perez, was arrested nearby shortly after the gunfight. A third suspect, 18-year-old Brian A. Garcia Chavez, was apprehended later the same day by a SWAT team. All three suspects face multiple felony charges, including attempted capital murder of a police officer and aggravated robbery.
