Bold Daylight Vehicle Burglary Caught on Camera in North Wichita Driveway

A north Wichita neighborhood has been left on high alert after a daring vehicle theft was caught on camera in broad daylight. Chad Witman, a local homeowner, shared surveillance footage showing suspects using a tow truck to steal his red Chevy Avalanche directly from his driveway.

The Theft Caught on Camera

The incident occurred on the afternoon of December 2, 2025, at approximately 1:13 p.m. Security cameras captured a tow truck pulling up to Witman's residence, hooking up his truck, and driving off in a matter of minutes. The boldness of the act has shocked neighbors, as the crime occurred in the middle of the day in a quiet residential area.

"They just backed up, hooked it, and took off. Itโ€™s incredibly bold," Witman said, expressing disbelief at how quickly and openly the thieves operated.

Wichita police confirmed they are actively investigating the incident. While the stolen truck was successfully recovered by law enforcement the following day, many valuable personal belongings that were inside the vehicle remain missing.

Stolen Belongings and Mementos

According to the victim, the vehicle was packed with essential items, including:

  • Valuable hunting and fishing gear
  • Firearms
  • A personal computer
  • Sentimental mementos belonging to Witman's late mother

Police have identified a person of interest in the case, and a charging appointment has been scheduled with the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. Authorities also addressed rumors of a larger tow-truck theft ring, stating they currently cannot corroborate reports of over twenty similar vehicle thefts in the area.
