Bronze Frankie Dettori statue stolen from London gallery

Theft at Haynes Fine Art Gallery in London

According to an article published on 9 October 2024 by Irishmirrorie, a bronze statue of jockey Frankie Dettori was stolen during a smash and grab raid at the Haynes Fine Art Gallery in Belgravia, London. The sculpture, titled ‘Frankie Dettori riding Stradivarius - Going out at Ascot’, is valued at £18,500.

Gallery owner Tony Haynes reported that the thief gained entry by breaking a glass panel on the front door. CCTV footage shows the suspect, who wore a blue top and a baseball cap, entering the premises and heading directly for the statue. The perpetrator also removed the description tag before fleeing the scene. According to Irishmirrorie, the suspect appeared to be working with an accomplice acting as a lookout.

Metropolitan Police officers arrived at the gallery shortly after the incident to secure the property and collect forensic evidence, including fingerprints and hair samples. The gallery owner noted that the theft appeared to be highly targeted, as other high-value items were left untouched. Businesses are encouraged to review their security measures and ensure that high-value window displays are protected by reinforced glass and monitored alarm systems.
