Brothers Charged in Violent Fresno Home Invasion Robbery and Police Shooting

FRESNO, California โ€” A violent home invasion robbery on North Backer and Shaw Avenue escalated into a high-speed police chase and officer-involved shootings at multiple locations, leading to felony charges and subsequent prison sentences for two brothers and their accomplice.

The incident unfolded around 7:20 a.m. when three armed men, identified as Amicho Mancia, 37, Antwoine Mancia, 43, and Aaron Guery, 28, forced their way into a local apartment. The suspects held the residents at gunpoint and stole a large safe before attempting to flee the scene in an SUV.

Officer-Involved Shootings and Campus Pursuit

Responding Fresno Police officers arrived at the apartment complex as the robbery was in progress. Two suspects ignored commands to surrender and jumped back into their vehicle. The driver, Amicho Mancia, reversed the SUV into a building and then accelerated directly toward an officer, prompting the officer to open fire on the vehicle.

The suspects then fled, initiating a dangerous pursuit that eventually led onto the campus of California State University, Fresno (Fresno State). In an effort to halt the fleeing suspects, officers executed a tactical vehicle collision to disable the SUV. According to police reports, Amicho Manciaโ€”who was wearing a bulletproof vestโ€”attempted to brandish an assault rifle before running from the vehicle, leading two additional officers to discharge their firearms. After a brief foot chase and the deployment of a police K-9, Amicho and Antwoine Mancia were taken into custody. The third suspect, Aaron Guery, was apprehended a few days later on January 29, 2025.

Legal Consequences and Sentencing

The Fresno County District Attorney's Office subsequently charged the suspects with multiple felony offenses, including residential burglary, robbery, assault on a peace officer, and unlawful possession of an assault weapon. Following a thorough investigation that included the release of body-worn camera footage, the Mancia brothers and Guery were convicted and sentenced in Fresno County Superior Court in June 2026, bringing a close to a case that shook the local community.
