Buffalo Man Charged After Shooting Clerk and Engaging in Gunfire with Police on West Side

BUFFALO, New York — A violent sequence of events on Buffalo's West Side has ended with a suspect in custody and multiple charges filed, following an attempted armed robbery, the shooting of a store clerk, a carjacking, and a subsequent shootout with police officers.

The incident began when the suspect entered a local convenience store on the city's West Side and attempted an armed robbery. During the confrontation, the suspect shot the store clerk, causing serious injuries. The suspect then fled the store and carjacked a nearby vehicle in an attempt to escape the scene.

Responding Buffalo police officers quickly located the hijacked vehicle, leading to a pursuit. The situation escalated when shots were exchanged between the suspect and officers. The suspect was shot by police during the encounter and was subsequently taken into custody. Both the clerk and the suspect were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
