Burglar jailed following incident at a Beverley home
Residential burglary in Beverley
According to an article published on 3 May 2025 by Hulllive, a 31-year-old man has been jailed for two years following a burglary at a private residence in Beverley. The incident took place at a property on Wilbert Grove shortly after 4am on 11 November 2023.
Hulllive reports that the intruder, identified as Luke Appleby, entered the home through an unlocked door. He was immediately challenged by an occupant who had been sleeping on a sofa in the living room, prompting the burglar to flee the scene. Appleby was later identified by a police officer using CCTV footage from the area.
During his trial at Hull Crown Court, Appleby claimed the intrusion was a misunderstanding, alleging he had mistaken the property for the home of a woman he had previously met. The jury rejected this explanation and convicted him of burglary with intent to steal. The court heard that the defendant, who is a drug addict, intended to steal items from the house but was interrupted before he could do so.
Always ensure that your external doors are locked, even when you are at home, to prevent unauthorized access.
