Burglar jailed following incident at a Workington supermarket

Sentencing following Workington supermarket burglary

According to an article published by Newsandstar on 1 October 2025, a 35-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 months in prison following a burglary at a Tesco supermarket in Workington. Samuel Wallace appeared before Workington Magistratesโ€™ Court, where he admitted to charges of burglary and shop theft.

Newsandstar reports that the burglary occurred on the night of Monday, 29 September. The defendant entered the store, accessed the cigarette counter with a screwdriver, and subsequently took cash from a till while threatening a staff member with the tool. He was arrested by police near the premises shortly after the incident.

Additionally, the court heard that the defendant had committed a separate theft at the same location on 27 September, during which he removed alcohol valued at ยฃ580 from the store without payment. A Cumbria Police spokesperson stated that the rapid arrest and sentencing reflect the commitment of law enforcement and the courts to addressing crimes that target local businesses.
