Burglars Strike Sweet Café and Lazic Deli in Jefferson Park Business Spree
CHICAGO, IL — The quiet of Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood was disrupted when a group of burglars targeted multiple local establishments, including The Sweet Café and Lazic Deli, in a late-night crime spree.
Chicago Police Department officials reported that the break-ins occurred at businesses located along Higgins Avenue, Foster Avenue, and Mulligan Avenue. The perpetrators utilized forced entry methods, shattering glass entryways and forcing doors open to bypass security locks. Inside, the thieves quickly targeted cash drawers, registers, and small safes.
Lazic Deli, a neighborhood staple, and The Sweet Café both suffered significant damage during the incident. "We arrived in the morning to find the front glass completely shattered and the registers ripped out," said an employee of one of the targeted businesses. "It's a tough blow for independent neighborhood spots that operate on tight margins."
Area Central Detectives are currently investigating the crime pattern. Officers are collecting surveillance footage from cameras located along Higgins and Foster Avenues to map out the suspects' route and identify any suspect vehicles involved. Residents and local business owners are urging police to increase patrols in the business corridor to prevent further commercial break-ins. The investigation is active, and police ask anyone with information to contact the department.
