Northernecho reports that the incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, 29 April. After staff reported a theft, they placed the shop on lockdown to prevent the suspect from leaving the premises. The individual subsequently smashed a shop window to break out of the store. He was arrested by police a short time later in the vicinity.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently ongoing and noted that authorities are aware of footage of the incident circulating online. The police are continuing their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the theft and the subsequent damage to the property.
