According to an article published on 29 October 2025 by Newsandstar, a group of youths caused extensive damage to The Theatre Royal in Workington. The incident, which occurred on 29 November 2023, involved the destruction of property including smashed bottles, damaged picture frames, and broken electronic equipment. According to Newsandstar, the intruders also ripped CCTV cameras from the walls and scattered rubbish throughout the foyer.

The cost of the damage to the community theatre, including repairs to the security system, was estimated at several thousand pounds. Following the incident at the theatre, the group traveled to Whitehaven, where they committed a robbery at a sheltered accommodation complex. The individuals involved, who were 16 at the time of the offences, later admitted to charges of robbery, burglary, and criminal damage at Carlisle Crown Court.

Business owners are encouraged to ensure that alarm systems and security cameras are regularly maintained and securely mounted to deter unauthorized access.
