According to an article published on 16 April 2026, a charity shop in Preston, located in Melbourneโs north, was the target of a burglary. News reports indicate that the incident occurred last Sunday night and lasted for over an hour.
Security footage captured individuals allegedly removing donations, including high-end jewellery, silverware, gaming consoles, and clothing. According to the report, the offenders entered the premises and were seen taking items from cabinets before exiting through the back door with a trolley full of goods. Adam Volpato of Helping Hands stated that the stolen items were intended to fund emergency food relief for families in need.
The store was forced to close temporarily to allow staff to assess the damage. As of the time of the report, no arrests have been made regarding the incident.
Business owners are encouraged to ensure that high-value inventory is stored in secure, reinforced cabinets and that alarm systems are regularly tested.
