Police dog tracks suspect after Tameside burglary
According to an article published on 13 January 2026 by Men, a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary following an incident at a private home in Ashton-under-Lyne. The 77-year-old homeowner was awoken in the early hours of Monday, 12 January, by a noise and observed a torchlight and an individual attempting to open his bedroom door.
The victim locked himself inside his room until police arrived four minutes later. According to Men, officers observed two suspects fleeing the scene. A police dog, Nova, pursued and apprehended one of the suspects. Greater Manchester Police reported that the individual was found in possession of items believed to belong to the victim, and additional stolen property was located nearby. Upon inspection of the property, officers discovered a forced entry point and a cut security light wire that had tripped the electrics. The suspect remains in custody as enquiries continue.
Ensure all entry points are securely locked and consider installing visible, well-maintained security lighting to deter potential intruders.
