Community support follows Truro opticians burglary

According to an article published by the BBC on 6 April 2025, an opticians shop in Truro has raised £1,630 for the charity iSightCornwall following a break-in. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of 2 February, involved the theft of glasses, electronics, and a charity collection tin from the iBuntu store.

The BBC reports that the total value of the stolen items, including an iPad, an iPhone, and sunglasses, amounted to £9,512. In response to the burglary, the shop owner organized a week-long fundraising drive by selling designer sunglasses that had been damaged during the raid at a discounted price. The owner, Sandhya Dharumpal, expressed gratitude for the community's support, noting that the generosity of customers helped the business recover and contribute to the sight loss charity.

Business owners are encouraged to secure all cash and high-value electronics in a locked safe outside of operating hours.
