Burglary at Ashton’s Fish and Chips in Bacup

According to an article published on 19 May 2025 by the Lancashiretelegraph, a fish and chip shop in Bacup was targeted by burglars. The incident occurred at Ashton’s Fish and Chips on Newchurch Road at approximately 5am on Monday, May 12.

Lancashiretelegraph reports that thieves smashed through the front door of the premises and stole a till along with staff tip jars. CCTV footage captured the suspects fleeing the scene in a BMW, which subsequently crashed. A 23-year-old man from Rochdale was later arrested on suspicion of burglary and has been bailed pending further police enquiries.

The business owner, Richard Ashton, reported that the break-in caused approximately £1,000 in damages, with a £400 excess on his insurance policy. The owner noted that the shop was forced to close for the day, resulting in a loss of takings during an already difficult period of rising energy and product costs.

Business owners are encouraged to review their security measures, including the installation of reinforced doors and monitored alarm systems, to help deter unauthorized entry.
