Burglary at electronics shops in Carlisle and Workington

Two jailed for commercial burglaries in Cumbria

According to an article published on 26 February 2025 by Cumbriacrack, two men have been sentenced to jail for burglaries targeting electronics shops in Carlisle and Workington. Stewart Walton, 43, and Liam Brogden, 40, travelled from West Yorkshire to commit the offences during the summer of 2024.

Cumbriacrack reports that the pair broke into the Carlisle CeX store on Scotch Street on 23 July, stealing mobile phones valued at £27,000. Three nights later, on 26 July, the duo targeted the CeX shop on Pow Street in Workington, escaping with £30,000 worth of laptops, iPads, mobile phones, and a keyboard. The court heard that the Workington store suffered additional losses due to forced closures following the incident.

Police identified the burglars using the Briefcam System to analyse extensive CCTV footage, which tracked the men’s movements and distinctive clothing. Despite the investigation, neither the stolen goods nor the van used in the crimes were recovered. Both defendants admitted to two charges of commercial burglary at Carlisle Crown Court.

Business owners are encouraged to reinforce entry points and maintain high-quality, monitored CCTV systems to deter and document potential intruders.
