Burglary at Maunsel House estate near Bridgwater

Break-in at historic Somerset estate

According to an article published on 29 August 2025 by Bridgwatermercury, a group of five individuals broke into the historic Maunsel House estate near Bridgwater. The incident occurred between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday, 24 August. CCTV footage captured four men and one woman entering the Grade II* listed property, where they wandered through a reception room and took photographs.

Bridgwatermercury reports that the intruders caused a few hundred pounds worth of damage and stole several small trinkets, including a back door key, though they did not take items of significant value. The group used a ladder to gain entry and damaged some of the property's security cameras. A subsequent attempted entry occurred at the mansion around 9pm on Monday, 25 August, though the individual was scared off by a person inside the property. Avon and Somerset Police have received reports regarding these incidents and are investigating the footage provided by the owner, Sir Benjamin Slade. The owner has expressed his distress regarding the intrusion and hopes that sharing the footage will prevent further incidents.

Ensure all entry points to your property are properly secured and consider installing monitored alarm systems to deter unauthorized access.
