Burglary at South Kedzie Avenue Taco Restaurant Under Investigation in Chicago Lawn
CHICAGO, IL — Police are investigating a commercial burglary at a taco restaurant on South Kedzie Avenue in Chicago's Chicago Lawn neighborhood. The break-in occurred during the early hours of March 30, 2025, and is one of two restaurant burglaries reported in the immediate area overnight.
Forced Entry and Property Damage
Responding officers found that the suspect or suspects had shattered a main window to gain entry into the building. Once inside, they targeted the office space and cash register, stealing cash and causing significant damage to the interior. The incident was discovered by the restaurant owners when they arrived to open for the day.
Police Investigate Pattern
Area One detectives are investigating whether this break-in is connected to a burglary at another taco restaurant on West 63rd Street. Police are analyzing surveillance footage from nearby stores and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators. In the meantime, local merchants are being urged to double-check their security systems and alarm installations.
The owners of the establishment expressed their frustration, citing the cost of window repairs and lost revenue during the cleanup process. "It's difficult for small businesses to absorb these costs," they noted in a local social media post.
