Burglary Suspect Arrested After Hiding in Tracy Dumpster

TRACY, California — A burglary suspect was taken into custody on New Year's Eve after a failed attempt to hide from police officers inside a commercial waste container in Tracy.

According to the Tracy Police Department, officers responded to reports of a burglary in progress at a local business. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement established a perimeter to prevent the suspect from escaping. Despite attempting to flee the immediate area of the break-in, the suspect chose an unconventional hiding spot to avoid detection.

Discovered in a Dumpster

During a thorough search of the property and its surroundings, officers inspected a nearby dumpster and located the individual hiding inside. The suspect was ordered to exit the container and was arrested without further incident. Police confirmed that stolen merchandise and tools commonly used in burglaries were recovered during the arrest.

“Our officers acted quickly to secure the scene, and their thorough search left no stone unturned—or in this case, no dumpster unchecked,” said an department official. The suspect is currently facing multiple charges, including commercial burglary, possession of burglary tools, and resisting arrest.
