Burglary Suspect Shot and Killed by Police on Chicago's West Side

CHICAGO, IL — A burglary suspect has died following an officer-involved shooting on Chicago's West Side, according to details released by the Chicago Police Department.

The incident began when officers responded to a call regarding an active burglary in progress at a local property. Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers encountered the suspect. According to police reports, a confrontation ensued between the suspect and the officers, which escalated and led to officers discharging their service weapons.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and received immediate medical attention. However, the individual succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead. No officers sustained serious physical injuries during the encounter.

As is standard protocol with all officer-involved shootings in Chicago, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) has launched an independent investigation to review the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including body-worn camera footage and officer testimonies. The Chicago Police Department is cooperating fully with the oversight agency's review.
