Bystander Shoots and Kills Robbery Suspect at Northwest Houston Gas Station

HOUSTON, Texas — A robbery attempt at a Northwest Houston Chevron gas station took a fatal turn on January 27, 2024, when an armed bystander intervened. The shooting took place at the Zip In Zip Out Chevron station located at 11095 Ella Boulevard.

According to investigators, an armed suspect approached a man and his girlfriend at the gas pumps, violently pistol-whipped the man, and demanded his wallet. A nearby bystander witnessed the assault and robbery in progress. As the suspect attempted to flee, the bystander drew his own weapon and fired multiple rounds, striking and killing the suspect.

Immediately after the shooting, the bystander instructed the robbery victim to retrieve his stolen wallet before leaving the scene. The bystander later contacted the Houston Police Department to speak with detectives. Following an initial investigation, authorities announced that the case would be referred to a Harris County grand jury for review to determine if charges should be filed.
