Calumet City Man Charged in ATM Theft Attempts in Oak Lawn and Chicago Ridge

A Calumet City man has been arrested and charged after police caught him in the act of trying to steal an automated teller machine (ATM) in Oak Lawn, in what investigators believe is part of a pattern of commercial burglaries spanning both Oak Lawn and Chicago Ridge.

Police responded to a call regarding suspicious activity near a commercial retail area in Oak Lawn on April 29, 2026. Upon arrival, officers intercepted the suspect as he was actively attempting to dislodge and load a heavy ATM machine. The suspect was immediately taken into custody without further incident.

Following an investigation, authorities linked the individual to a similar heist attempt that occurred in neighboring Chicago Ridge. He now faces multiple felony charges, including burglary, possession of burglary tools, and criminal damage to property. The Oak Lawn and Chicago Ridge police departments are conducting a joint investigation to determine if additional accomplices were involved in the heist operations.
