Cannabis Store Employee Cleared in Shooting; Two Charged with Attempted Robbery

WINSTON-SALEM, NC โ€” The Winston-Salem Police Department has cleared a cannabis store employee of any wrongdoing after they shot a suspect during an attempted robbery in early January.

The incident occurred on January 6, 2026, when intruders attempted to rob the retail establishment. Acting in self-defense, an employee discharged a firearm, striking one of the suspects. Following a thorough review of the incident, investigators determined that the employee acted appropriately to protect themselves and the premises.
