Car crashes into Morrisons supermarket in Hartlepool

Vehicle incident at Hartlepool supermarket

According to an article published on 20 May 2025 by Gazettelive, a car crashed through the entrance of a Morrisons supermarket located on Clarence Road in Hartlepool. The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, 19 May.

Witnesses reported that the white vehicle struck the front window of the store, which reportedly contained items such as bags of coal and mini barbecues. Bystanders assisted the driver in exiting the vehicle before emergency services arrived at the scene at approximately 7:15 pm. Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service assessed the driver, a woman, who did not appear to have suffered any physical injuries and was discharged on-site.

Cleveland Police confirmed that the driver was issued a traffic offence report for driving without due care. Cleveland Fire Brigade also attended the scene to assist in making the vehicle safe. A recovery vehicle subsequently removed the car from the premises. A spokesperson for Morrisons confirmed that the supermarket has remained open following the incident.

Business owners are encouraged to install reinforced bollards or protective barriers to prevent vehicles from accidentally entering storefronts.
