Cartier Eyewear Worth $30,000 Stolen from Georgetown Optician in Bold Theft
WASHINGTON, D.C. โ The historic and upscale neighborhood of Georgetown was the site of a brazen daytime theft on Wednesday, as a suspect walked out of a local boutique with luxury eyewear valued at tens of thousands of dollars.
High-Value Targets
The incident occurred at the renowned Georgetown Optician, a premium eyewear store. According to staff reports, a suspect entered the store under the pretense of browsing the collections. Within moments, the individual targeted the display cases containing high-end Cartier glasses, concealing multiple pairs before exiting the store unnoticed by security personnel.
"It happened so quickly. You don't expect someone to walk in and just snatch $30,000 worth of luxury frames in broad daylight," one store employee stated, describing the shock of the incident.
Rising Concern Over Retail Theft
Local business owners in the Georgetown commercial corridor have raised concerns about a perceived uptick in retail crimes targeting luxury products. The Metropolitan Police Department is actively analyzing security footage from the optician and surrounding businesses to identify the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact police detectives.
