ATM stolen in Wylam supermarket burglary
According to an article published on 29 September 2025 by Chroniclelive, a Co-op store located on Main Road in the Northumberland village of Wylam was targeted in a burglary. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.
Chroniclelive reports that a cashpoint was forcefully removed from the wall of the building. A witness stated that three individuals wearing balaclavas used a vehicle to gain entry to the store before using an angle grinder to extract the machine. The suspects subsequently fled the scene. Northumbria Police confirmed that they received reports of a disturbance at approximately 1.30am and that enquiries into the burglary are ongoing.
Councillor Lawrence O'Donnell noted that the store has experienced multiple break-ins since opening in 2017 and expressed a desire to work with the business to improve security measures, specifically regarding the vulnerability of the front entrance. Despite the damage caused, local authorities have stated that they are offering reassurance to the public.
Business owners are encouraged to review their physical security measures and consider installing reinforced barriers to protect vulnerable entry points.
