Burglary at a Maidstone charity shop

According to an article published on 12 February 2026, a man has been sentenced to 35 weeks in prison following a burglary at a charity shop in Maidstone, Kent. ITV reports that the perpetrator hid inside the premises as the shop closed before stealing several items and ยฃ520 from the safe.

The incident on the High Street was reported to the police on the morning of Wednesday 4 February 2026. Using CCTV footage, officers identified the suspect and arrested 44-year-old Danny Crawley at an address in Maidstone less than three hours after the report was filed. In addition to the burglary charge, Crawley was arrested for breaching a restraining order.

Following his appearance at Medway Magistrates' Court on 5 February, where he pleaded guilty, Crawley was ordered to pay ยฃ500 in compensation. Inspector Steve Kent of the Maidstone Community Safety Unit highlighted the importance of local police knowledge in the swift identification and arrest of the offender.

Business owners are encouraged to ensure all areas of their premises are thoroughly checked for unauthorized persons before locking up for the night.
