Chatham Man Charged in $20,000 Sports Trading Card Heist in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MO — A suspect is in police custody following a high-value burglary at a Springfield collectibles and hobby business, where approximately $20,000 worth of rare sports trading cards were stolen.

The Springfield Police Department, with assistance from regional law enforcement partners, arrested a Chatham man in connection with the heist. According to investigators, the suspect broke into the specialty shop after hours, bypassed security measures, and targeted showcases containing highly valuable collectible cards, which have experienced a surge in market value in recent years.

Recovery Efforts and Retail Security

Following the break-in, store owners provided detailed lists and security footage of the stolen items to help track the inventory. The rapid response from local investigators led to the identification of the suspect and his subsequent arrest. A portion of the stolen cards was reportedly recovered during the arrest.
