Chicago Police Issue Security Alert Following Commercial Burglaries in Bucktown, Logan Square, and Wicker Park

CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago Police Department has released a formal community alert warning business owners in the Bucktown, Logan Square, and Wicker Park neighborhoods about a recent surge in commercial burglaries. Over a short span of time, at least three separate businesses were broken into, with thieves targeting high-value goods and cash registers.

In each of the reported incidents, the offenders gained entry by smashing front windows or forcing open rear doors during the overnight hours. Once inside, they targeted cash drawers and small electronics before fleeing in a waiting vehicle. Business owners in these trendy commercial districts are feeling increasingly vulnerable. "We've had to reinforce our security gates and upgrade our cameras, but it's still terrifying to think we could be next," said a boutique owner in Wicker Park.

CPD is advising all business operators in the affected areas to keep their registers empty and open overnight, ensure security cameras are functioning and visible, and leave exterior lighting on. Detectives are seeking assistance from the public, requesting anyone with surveillance footage or information about suspicious activity in the Bucktown, Logan Square, or Wicker Park areas to contact the Area Five Bureau of Investigations.
