Columbus Man Arrested After Store Break-Ins and Bizarre Discovery Involving Hamsters

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A routine commercial break-in response turned into one of the most bizarre arrests in recent local memory after police apprehended a man who had gone on a multi-store rampage.

Officers were dispatched to a commercial district in Columbus following reports of active break-ins. The suspect had allegedly smashed windows and forced entry into several storefronts, causing significant property damage. Upon searching the premises, officers discovered the man fast asleep inside one of the businesses.

The situation took a turn for the surreal when officers searched the suspect. Stuffed inside his trousers were several live, uninjured hamsters, which he had apparently taken from a nearby pet store during his rampage. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and faces multiple charges of breaking and entering, vandalism, and animal theft. The hamsters were safely recovered and returned to the pet shop.
