Concealed-Carry Holder Kills Suspect in Auburn Gresham Attempted Robbery
CHICAGO, IL โ A shooting in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood left an attempted robbery suspect dead after he exchanged gunfire with a citizen holding a valid Concealed-Carry License (CCL) and Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card. The incident occurred during the daytime in a busy commercial area on the city's South Side.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the suspect approached the CCL holder and attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The victim drew his licensed handgun, prompting the suspect to open fire. A shootout ensued, during which the suspect was struck multiple times. Emergency medical services responded to the scene, but the suspect was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The shooter, who remained at the scene and cooperated fully with responding officers, was not injured. CPD confirmed that the citizen's firearms credentials were valid and in good standing. Investigators are treating the case as self-defense, though a final review will be conducted by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office to verify all details of the exchange.
